Club Philosophy
Our goal is to create an affordable, enjoyable and challenging experience for our players where they can learn the fundamental skills and strategies of volleyball through structured practices and a competitive tournament schedule. Most of our players are interested in playing at the collegiate level and we strive to give them adequate exposure to recruiters at some of the premiere tournaments in the Midwest and beyond.

The Wisconsin Select Volleyball Club (WSVBC) is based in Madison, Wisconsin and draws players from South Central Wisconsin. WSVBC was started in 1986 by Cindy Hanson (former University of Wisconsin Badger player, current Head Coach at Madison West High School), Mike Chandler (former Head Coach of Edgewood College, currently USAV Director Junior National Events).
During the early years of the club the teams were split into two programs, General and Select. The General program offered fewer practices and tournaments and the Select program focused on the players interested in continuing their play at the collegiate level. Both girls and boys programs were offered for high school age players for several years. Cindy was the Club's Director & Coach and Mike coached the Select 18's Girls team.
Cindy continued as the Club Director until 1992 when Gary Paul (Head Coach at Edgewood College) stepped in and guided the club through a transition to a partnership with the West Madison YMCA. The YMCA was able to take over many of the financial aspects of the club and provide help in securing practice and tournament sites.
Since 1996 John Kingsbury has been the Club's Director. The current program consists of 5 girls Select teams practicing twice a week and averaging two tournaments per month. We started a 14 & Under program in 1996 and also formalized additional practice time for setter development.
